Founded in 2010, the City Park Toy Library is a not-for-profit lending library open to ALL Saskatoon families. The toy library houses over 200 good quality toys suitable for children ages six months to six years. Three toys at a time may be borrowed for up to one month per family. The City Park Toy Library is located in the basement of First Mennonite Church at 418 Queen Street, Saskatoon. Hours will be posted on social media, please check our Facebook page for hour information.
The Toy Library is made possible through volunteers, toy donations, the City Park Community Association, and the space is donated by First Mennonite Church. If you are cleaning out your toys and looking for a place to donate your toys, the Toy Library will accept washable (that is, no plush, only wooden or plastic) toys as long as all, or at least the vast majority of pieces, are intact and the toy is useful and fun. If it is something you wouldn’t want to borrow from a toy lending library, then likely it is not useful to us either.
City Park Toy Library is not just a lending library. It is also a place for children to play and for parents/caregivers to visit. Children are welcome to complete a craft and play with the toys. There are many benefits of being a member of a toy library.
These include: -Having access to hundreds of toys -Borrowing toys that are matched to your child’s individual need, stage of development and interests. -Avoiding storage issues of multiple or bulky toys. -Helping the environment and reducing consumption by borrowing rather than purchasing. -Meeting other young families. -Being a part of your community.
Australia has an extensive network of toy libraries. Check it out here: http://www.toylibraries.org.au/ We are asking for a $20 membership fee for the year. This money goes toward batteries, new toys, and cleaning supplies. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
